Chestnuts Roasting on Microwave

Roasted chestnuts in microwave. We can still find good chestnuts in markets and so today I bring you an easy and super quick roast in less than 3 minutes.

The tradition is to roast chestnuts in the oven or fire (using a pan or other container but with holes in its base) but this time we'll use the microwave. Thus we lose the nuances that provides roasting the other two methods but there are still some very rich chestnuts, warm and above all very easy to prepare. Read the tips at the end before starting the recipe and if you decide you know .... the kitchen!!

Ingredients for Roasted Chestnuts in Microwave:

     chestnuts
     coarse salt

Chestnuts Roasting Recipe Microwave:

1 Option A) We have to make a cut in the nuts as much steam when heated release and if they have that cut would explode, so do not leave any uncut. If you have a special pliers to cut the chestnut (see next photo) use them as it is the fastest and safest way to open the chestnuts.
Option B 1) If you do not have such pincers nothing happens, to use a knife as it has been a lifetime. Take a chestnut with one hand and a knife in the other. Make a cut across, from side to side of the chestnut (just one side). Repeat with all the chestnuts. The cut must be deep enough to cut the two skins of the chestnuts (the hard outer shell and the inner skin) and how to do some strength it is best to use a serrated knife to have better control on the court. The normal knives (the flat blade) also apply but tend to slip on the outer shell and you can make a cut on the hand.

2 º) Put the chopped chestnuts in a microwave safe bowl. If your microwave reaches 1000 W (watts) of power with 2 ½ minutes will suffice. But it is normal that the maximum of the microwave (especially the oldest) is 800 W (watts), if your microwave does not exceed 800 w chestnut leaves 3 ½ minutes to that power. If in doubt about the power of your microwave is an understatement best and keep trying. When the chestnuts are ready microwave steam fills givers to roasted chestnuts.

3rd) Take the chestnuts out of microwave (be careful if burning the container) and add a bit of salt over (this is optional). Let the chestnuts cool slightly, just enough to peel them without burning and ready. Off the kitchen and to eat!

To eat:
You see not put amounts because you can make as many nuts as you feel like doing, yes, do not do a lot more than you thought you eat it when cooled completely harden chestnuts and if you have not peeled it will cost a lot more work and the skin becomes to stick to the nut when it is cooled.
One of the biggest advantages of roasting chestnuts (in addition to the rich that are roasted) is that the skin is removed much more easily. If after roasting your chestnuts (either with microwave, oven, pan ....) skin still attached is rather because of the quality of chestnut than anything else. I used it when I find chestnuts in Galicia, somewhat more expensive here, but much better ;)
If you make many chestnuts in the microwave is better to do it in a couple of batches, or use the larger container you into the microwave so it does not pile up on top of each other. I used a silicone container microwaveable sent to me from Silikomart.
To prepare this recipe you have to take a couple of precautions, the first and most obvious is to be careful when cutting the chestnuts as it is very easy to cut if not done carefully. The second precaution is to remove the container from the microwave as it may be hot and you can burn your hands. Be sure to use a container that is microwave safe and it does not absorb too hot and if in doubt better to use some oven mitts to remove the tank.
You can make the cut in chestnut the way you like, provided that you make sure that you break the hard shell outside. But I recommend you make the cut as the pictures, cut side to side along the chestnut because I find it much easier to peel and remove the peel when cut this way.
